Welcome to the Research Library The St. Augustine Historical Society Research Library preserves the finest collections of printed, microfilmed, manuscript, digital, and pictorial materials relating to Florida history in a non-governmental repository. Our collections are of national importance owing to the many unique resources that we offer. The Research Library is an outgrowth of two of Florida's oldest cultural institutions: The Free Library Association of St. Augustine (est. 1872) and the St. Augustine Historical Society (est. 1883). Highlights include: Translations of the earliest (1594) church records in the nation Copies of official Spanish and British Colonial documents (1513-1821) The oldest municipal (1812) and county (1821) records in Florida Outstanding collections of genealogical data from the sixteenth century to the present, especially for people of Minorcan descent Location: The Research Library is located at 6 Artillery Lane on the corner of Aviles Street and Artillery Lane - one block south of the main downtown plaza. The building has entrances on both streets. Our reading room is on the second floor. Use the stairs on the loggia to enter. Patrons unable to climb stairs should call ahead for best service. Parking: Hundreds of metered and $5.00 all-day parking spaces are within two blocks of the Research Library. Hours: Library hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and the third Saturday of the month, 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Fees: Entry to the Research Library is free to everyone, but we do charge fees for services provided to patrons. Xerographic copies are $.50 per page, and copies from microfilm are $1.00 per page. Research conducted by library staff is billed at $25.00 per hour.
